I’m Back.

Ok to be honest, I never left.

I’ve been doing a lot (sometimes) on my Instagram page, KhaosTheoryDerby. I have moved from Tampa, Florida to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. I have been helping Divergence Roller Derby do incredible things (with my BROTHER who is now involved). I’ve been reffing, coaching clinics, announcing, and of course PLAYING.

Why haven’t I posted here since 2018? Two reasons: 1) For a long time, text format felt outdated and kind of unnecessary. It felt like everyone was so obsessed with short format video that any kind of text was just missing the mark. 2) I was disciplined for it.

Journalism, editorial, writing in general is supposed to be a free expression of your experience. For me, I have always tried to listen to the stories of those around me and then translate that into words to share with others. A blog I did, which I STILL will get messages about how important it is to consider the buy-in of your league members, was not seen in a good light and I got a Code of Conduct violation for it.

Nothing will kill the Muse and stamp your spirit like that.

So I stopped writing. I stopped sharing for a long time. Depression was real, I questioned my place in the community, and I thought that maybe everything I’ve done was for nothing.

Couple that with the whole “well people don’t really read long form pieces anymore anyway” and it just gave me an excuse to wallow during my [bad] recovery from 2nd ACL surgery.

But I’m back!! Since the pandemic I’ve seen so many culture shifts in derby, so much has changed about myself, and I think it’s time to give the world some more Khaos. I have a few pieces that are half written right now, and I’m trying to use my offseason to stay OFF skates and work on that. If you’re on skates, check out my Insta for instructional reels. I’m working on a few more of those two.

And I’ll see you soon.

Merry Khaos
